Let your child’s imagination come to life this World Book Day! We're thrilled to announce an exclusive workshop with the incredible Jo Rooks—renowned children’s book author and illustrator.

This workshop is designed for children aged 6 to 14 years old.
This hands-on, exciting workshop invites kids to celebrate their favorite day, World Book Day, by designing and illustrating their very own unique character—and imagining how they could bring that character to life through costumes and storytelling! 🖌️✨

About Jo Rooks
Jo is an Author-illustrator from the UK who is has six published picture book titles including her award winning debut ‘A Box of Butterflies’.
Her books have been translated into multiple foreign languages, used in school resources and also produced into a play which was performed to more than 600 children in the Merton Borough of London and at Barnes Literary Festival. Jo has worked with many children’s publishers including Magination Press, Usborne Books, Little Tiger Press, Oxford University Press, Out of the Box Books and York Press. She is a warm and friendly tutor who has a passion for nurturing talent and inspire new authors, illustrators and artists on their own creative journeys.

1. What is the suitable age range for this workshop?
This workshop is designed for children aged 6 to 12 years old. The activities and materials are tailored for this age group, ensuring younger kids can enjoy the process while older children dive deeper into character creation and storytelling.
2. Will parents or guardians be allowed to stay with their children?
Yes! Parents or guardians are welcome to stay during the workshop if they wish. However, it’s not mandatory. Our experienced workshop team, along with Jo Rooks, will ensure your child feels comfortable, engaged, and supported throughout the event. If you decide to stay, we kindly ask that you let your child enjoy the creative process independently, with minimal interruptions.
3. Do participants need to bring anything?
No, we’ve got everything covered! All materials, including sketchpads, pencils, colors, paints, and collage materials, will be provided. If your child has a favorite set of tools or a specific material they’d like to incorporate, they are welcome to bring it along!
4. Does my child need prior illustration or story-writing experience?
Not at all! This workshop is designed for all skill levels, whether your child loves to doodle or is just starting to explore creativity. Jo Rooks will guide participants step-by-step through the process, ensuring everyone has fun while learning.
5. Can my child dress up as their character after creating it?
Absolutely! While we’ll focus on creating the character and discussing costumes during the workshop, kids will be encouraged to imagine themselves as their character. If time permits, they might even make a simple DIY costume accessory to take home. Parents are encouraged to help their child fully dress up as their character for World Book Day celebrations.
